MAYA
ADVENTURES
Ceiba Adventures has 29 years of experience in
the Maya world and we’d love to turn you on to these amazing
and spectacular Maya sites. Our Maya Adventures originally started
in 1980 on the Rio Usumacinta, which is the international border
between Mexico and Guatemala. Ceiba was one of the pioneers of
archaeological whitewater river trips in Southern Mexico. The
adventure film industry highlighted many expeditions in the region
and we continue to work with archaeologists, travel agents, tour
conductors and individuals from all over the world.
We have two regular itineraries that we run. The
River of Ruins adventure and the La Ruta Maya tour, as well as,
coordinating custom travel packages throughout the Maya areas.
All of our tours are small groups ranging from
6 to 12 people. A very experienced Mayanist always the leads our
trips and we travel by van, foot, boat, mule or small plane depending
on the particular itinerary. Our stomping grounds include the
Mexican states of Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Quintana Roo, and
the state of Yucatan. Ceiba has a lot of years of expertise in
Belize and the Peten of Guatemala as well. This diverse area is
where the ancient and modern day Maya settled and is the focal
point of Ceiba’s adventure trips and tours.
Ceiba can set up all kinds of tour packages to
take you to the well-known or remote Maya archaeological sites.
Hotels, local guides, suggestions on travel arrangements, working
within time frames and taking you to out of the way restaurants
and all of the must-see spots are all things we can offer you
in Mexico, Belize, and Northern Guatemala.
Ceiba’s services are always friendly, helpful,
to the point, honest and our resources have been accumulating
now for almost 30 years. The Maya sites in Mexico that Ceiba frequents
include: The Temples of Palenque, Bonampak, Yaxchilan, Altar de
Sacrificios, Seibal, Aguateca, Tikal National Park, Ek Balam,
Chichen Itza, Uxmal, Labna, Sayil, Kabah, Edzna, Chicanna, Calakmul,
Kohunlich, Xpuhil, Chacchoben, Muyil, Tulum and Coba.
Several other highlights that are always incorporated
into each trip are; rainforest ecology and how the biodiversity
of the rainforests was very integral in the everyday life of the
Maya. Our trip leaders, local guides and even the shuttle drivers
spend time interpreting the local flora and fauna as we traverse
this amazing countryside. Often people sign up primarily for the
birding and the Maya archaeology as a close second reason, as
birding is part of the focus of our itineraries.
With Ceiba’s longevity in the local communities
another added bonus to each trip is our ability to be instantly
incorporated into the Mexican families that we’ve known
now for 30 years. This unique aspect of an eco-travel trip guarantees
that each and every one of our participants has the ability to
be totally immersed with the local people and their daily lives.
Ceiba’s experience has been well documented
with our many Maya adventures and we look forward to hearing from
you soon and assisting you in arranging your very own unforgettable
Mayan adventure.
